Health and Safety

The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 requires employers to provide whatever information, instruction, training and supervision is necessary to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety at work of their employees. According to the CIPD, the most likely type of training offered to employees was health and safety (55% full-time, 64% part-time). 81% of H&S professionals say breaking people free from work to attend training is a big problem for businesses. 75% of H&S professionals say that employees don’t care about safety training and it could be due to a lack of engagement and refreshed materials.

Higher levels of health consciousness, recovering unemployment levels, and efforts by businesses to enhance productivity by reducing the costs of poor health are expected to boost demand for H&S services. According to Health and Safety Executive, there is a £7.6 billion annual cost of workplace injury in 2019/20 in the UK. In 2020/21 alone, the Health and Safety Executive issued £26.9 million in fines following prosecutions for H&S breaches. According to the American Society of Safety Professionals, $4 is saved for each $1 investment in occupational safety & health. Companies are systemically reviewing and rethinking their approaches to health & safety training and realising that many aspects can be taught more effectively and economically virtually.

The survey results, released by Intertek Alchemy, shows a comprehensive analysis of challenges companies face when it comes to worker safety.

VR training has proven to be an effective tool compared to traditional methods. Companies in high-risk industries experienced a 43% reduction in injury rates after implementing virtual reality training.
