We hear the word diversity and inclusion in the workplace a lot, however, many people don’t really understand what it is, nor get why it’s a heavily spoken about topic.

What is Diversity and Inclusion?

Diversity and inclusion are two concepts which are interconnected, but they are also far from interchangeable. Diversity in the workplace refers to the similarities and also differences an employee brings to each workplace. This may consist of race, disability gender or age. Whereas inclusion in the workplace is when you are valued and accepted in a work team and in the wider organisation, without having to conform. Inclusive organisations support employees, regardless of their background or circumstance, to thrive at work.

Here at MOONHUB, we incorporate diversity and inclusion in our virtual reality training, to ensure our clients have an out-of-this-world experience without having the fear of being judged and excluded.

We make training more manageable for people who may not always understand the theoretical side of training.

Split into 4 key topics, the user is immersed in the realities of a common workplace environment in 360.

Our topics consist of:

  • Micro-Aggression
  • Unconscious bias
  • Harassment
  • Onboarding

We have 4 subtopics (scenarios) under each key topic which allows you to face real-life training scenarios to better understand the main points in creating a safe workplace for everyone.

What are micro-aggressions?

We’ve all been in situations at work when someone says or does something that feels hostile or offensive to some aspect of our identity and the person doesn’t even realise it. Statements, questions, or assumptions aimed at traditional identity groups can come across as insensitive and have no place at work.

Are we conscious of our unconscious bias?

Unconscious bias in the workplace is when people form opinions about others in the office without having enough relevant information. Bias can stem from past experiences, stereotypes or maybe even gut instinct. Unconscious bias occurs when an individual is prejudiced but they are unaware. We make sure that your awareness skills are elevated.

What is harassment in the workplace?

Workplace harassment is the belittling or threatening behaviour directed at an individual worker or a group of workers, which makes them feel upset, or discomfort. Harassment could also link to bullying; a pattern of mistreatment from others in the workplace that causes either physical or emotional harm that is persistent.

How to onboard?

This refers to the processes in which new work staff are integrated into the organisation. It includes activities that allow new employees to complete an initial new-hire orientation process and immerse themselves in the company’s ethos. This is a fundamental stage to promote the culture of inclusivity and celebrate diversity.

A diverse and inclusive workplace is a powerful driver for organisations.

Equitable employers outperform their competitors by respecting the unique needs, perspectives and potential of each member of their team.

Therefore, diverse and inclusive workplaces earn a deeper trust and commitment from their employees.
