Diversity and inclusion training primarily exists, if at all, in the workplace. We’ve written about this in our blogs, on our social media, and in our podcasts. It’s why the first of our MOONHUB Suite training subjects focuses on corporate D&I. But why limit D&I training to adults?
D&I VR Training
Surely inclusivity should begin at school. The more we educate, the more we will implement change. (Un)conscious biases and prejudices are taught, we’re not born with them, so why don’t we teach positive practices the right way, at the right age.
D&I VR Training
Schools and colleges in England include PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) as part of the curriculum. Let’s make this relevant to later life and offer learning opportunities on topics such as unconscious bias, microaggressions, harassment, and onboarding. Learning about racism, sexism, religious bias, LGBQT+, and a whole lot more, in a safe environment is vital.
All students will either go onto further studies, apprenticeships or employment, and will hugely benefit from learning about D&I, so that it can be called out if witnessed.
What are we proposing?
We all know about the blended learning approach, and we’ve made it engaging, interactive and immersive by utilising virtual reality technology. Our training scenarios are relatively short, so all students can have a go and an engaging workshop-style discussion can take place afterwards. The more we educate the younger generation, the less we will experience bias and harassment in the future of the workplace. Open discussions are necessary to tackle this problem head on, so we become a more inclusive and diverse world.
